Dreams vs Goals

I want you to let your mind drift off into a fantasy world. Can you see your dream vacation? Is there a particular destination or activity you’ve always wanted to experience? I’m sure there’s a dope, luxury dream car that you can almost feel under your fingertips. What about your dream weight? Do you have an ideal number in mind? How about a dream house? Maybe somewhere off the grid on a ton of land or a tropical island.

Now, without a concrete goal and a well-thought-out plan, that’s exactly what these will always remain – just dreams.

For example, let’s say you want to shed a few pounds or gain some muscle. If all you do is talk about it and there’s no action then it’s just a dream. You need to set the goal and decide on the desired weight. And that’s just the beginning. Following that, you have to come up with a detailed plan. This will most likely involve adopting a healthy diet, incorporating regular exercise into your routine, ensuring you get adequate sleep, among other things.

Now, think bigger. What if your dream is to achieve financial freedom and earn life-changing money? Again, start by setting a clear goal. What is the exact number that comes to mind when you think financial freedom or life changing money? Once you have a number in mind, formulate a plan. This could mean learning new skills, figuring out how to monetize the talents you already possess, or even setting aside a particular sum each month for investment purposes, or maybe it’s a combination. Visualizing the end goal is crucial, but the journey to get there requires meticulous planning and actionable steps. One effective way to ensure your goals are clear and reachable is to make them SMART:

  • Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve.
  • Measurable: Determine how you’ll track and assess your progress.
  • Achievable: Ensure your goal is realistic given your current circumstances and resources.
  • Relevant: Your goal should be meaningful and align with your values and larger life or career objectives, ensuring that it contributes to the broader vision you have for yourself.
  • Time-bound: Set a deadline to maintain focus and motivation.

To wrap things up I want to quote the great Denzel Washington, “Dreams without goals are just dreams, and they ultimately fuel disappointment. On the road to achieving your dreams, you must apply discipline but more importantly consistency because with commitment you’ll never start but without consistency you’ll never finish.”

So, are you ready to make your dreams a reality? Begin by setting SMART goals today and remember, while commitment sets you on the path, it’s only through consistent effort that you’ll reach the finish line. Embrace the challenge and turn your dreams into achievable goals!
